Since the inception of the internet, creating websites and getting website traffic has become easier and easier. More and more sites are being created each and every day about every topic that you can imagine. The competition is getting greater and greater and getting people to see your many hours of work is not easy – especially if you do not know what you are doing. To get website traffic is now your main aim. But how do you do this?
Internet marketing, which is the essence of getting website traffic is both an art and a science in how to get website traffic. The aim is to get targeted website traffic and also get ranked highly on the front page of Google (as this is the main search engine most people use).
Believe it or not, most of your work will actually focus away from your site, but before we go onto that, there are several things that can be done on your site to lay the foundations of your campaign.
Firstly, you need to find a keyword (or more) that both relates to your site and that people are searching for. Google keyword tool is a great place to start and once you have a word that people are searching for and is pretty low on competition, write your homepage based around that word. For every hundred words, aim to have around four occurrences of that word.
If you are good at html, include the keyword in your meta description, your h1 tags and also rename any images you have on that page to include your keyword.
There are a few other things you can do to your site to give it a boost on the search engines, but that’s basically it.
Now for the second part of your campaign, off page optimization. Now you will focus on getting good back links to your site. A good start for this is to write articles and post them on ezine article sites. This will create votes for your site and also bring you a little traffic too and will help get indexed with google.
You can also create blog posts from free sites like squidoo, blogger, wordpress, hubpages and so on to increase your little network.
Other places to get great links from are other relevant blog sites where you can comment on a blog and leave a link back to your site. Related forums are excellent places too and you can actually help people with your advice and then place a link to your site in your signature, many forums still allow that feature.
If you are really serious, you can sign up on an article submission site and for a monthly fee have several articles posted to thousands of different sites over a period of time.
These are just a few simple and popular ideas to get website traffic. The concepts are quite simple, but the execution is more tricky. As website creation is getting simpler, website promotion is getting tougher and that’s logical because more and more sites are going up all the time. So to get your site up on top is going to take some time, patience and effort. Good luck in getting website traffic.
